Just ordered a HO Alternator for my B5 Passat from Mechman. Wanted to give everyone an idea of my experience in case there was any doubt. I shopped around a decent amount, and although Mechman wasn't the cheapest - it also was not the most expensive. Not to mention they were the only company I could find that even offered something higher than 240 Amps (320) for my car. I even had a couple of manufacturers claim that anything above stock in my Passat could damage the setup. Contact with mechman was continuous back and forth - and Matthew answered every one of my questions. I asked the difference between their alternator and a competitors and he took the time to meticulously explain the differences in a very precise and detailed email. When you add up the quality of their product (Not just the electronic components, but the custom machined casings) vs factory/competitors with the quality of their customer service and attention to detail I don't think you can lose. There's other people out there that offer longer warranties, or cheaper pricing - but any money you save will be lost in the downtime your car experiences if an Alternator blows out and requires ar replacement. (IMO). I also want to thank members for posting their experiences on the board because after-sale support is incredibly important, and in almost every thread here that contains issues - there's updates saying how quick and fast Mechman was to get them a replacement, fix it, etc. Here's to hoping the product is every bit as good as it sounds! Also: It may seem fishy that this is my first post and my account was created today, but I can provide proof of purchase if required. I'm a lurker and just like to hide out in the shadows. However I'm always wanting to help out companies and products that go above and beyond for their customers hence why I took the time to create an account.
