If you take YOUR 16v calculations and use the 2.8volts max per cell x 7 cells = 19.6 (you your self said 16.88 and 20.66) Really how much different is 2.583(you) to what I said 2.6. Please
EDIT)
Never heard of a 12v 8 cell battery.
If you take your 2.583 x 6 cells = 15.48 which is a standered MLA module set point COLD 15.5v. After the alt warms up it will stablelize at 14.7 well in YOUR safe zone even. Correct
I wasnt talking about 7 cell batts and ive never heard of an 8 cell 12V battery either.
lol...and thanks, you just verified that im right.

I run 12-kinetic 2400 & 1 - 2000
These batteries need 2.6-2.8 volts per cell to see a full charge. There are 6 cells per 2400 thats 16.8volts. Since I run mine at 16.2v COLD they stabilize @ 15.8 or so when hot. This is no where near (dangerously overcharging ) in fact its about a volt shy of even full charge.
Not sure what a dying 16v is ? I'm charging @ 16v not trying to run a 16v system. A 16v is acutally a 16.9v with 7 cell @ 2.6-2.8 per cell this app.would need to charge @ 18.9 to 19.8v (pending on the amount of batteries). Please help I have never heard of a dying 16v? Thank you,
MLA
Ive never heard of "safely" charging at 2.6 to 2.8 volts per cell. I was taught that 2.583 per cell is the max safe voltage so when you said 16.2, i assumed you were over charging a 12 volt system (12.66-15.49) or you had a 16 volt system that should be between 16.88 and 20.66.
8 cells at 16.2 would be a "dying 16v system" in my opinion.

with 2 alts @ 16.2v pulling 20,000 watts my lights don't dim.
So are you dangerously overcharging 12 volt batteries or is that a dying 16V system?
Or something else?
-
so you don't recomend doin a wall behind the back seats?
no. it wouldnt be as loud as firing the subs up and port back.
-
Externally regulated alternator at around 18.4-6 volts is what you need.
actually 20.664 is ideal.
.....but an even 20 will work.
-
so in other words, i shouldnt worry?? and its low 12 volt, idk xact, but its low 12 volts....i dont know if its something i should worry about in the furute cause im only pullin 2k watts now, and when everything is done itll be around 4.5-5k, with 2 batts unless i need to buy a third
It doesnt matter if you have 1 battery or 100 batteries. If your system and vehicle is drawing more current than your alternator is putting out, eventually your lights will start dimming and your batteries will get down to a point that it will take a LONG time on a battery charger for them to be back at 100%. You either need a better alternator or 2 or you need to have more self-control over the volume knob.
-
Saying you were at 12 volts is a pretty broad spectrum since 12.66 is fully charged and 12.45 is very low. If your amp or a combination of amps, headlights, radio, brake lights etc is drawing more current than your alternator is putting out and you start getting close to or below 12.66 you will have dimming lights. Thats normal.

Ya those soundstreams excel at 18v, sell em and get something differnt. That would be easy. UNLESS this is just for spl it seems like a waste.
+1.
I had 4 XXX 6500's in a CRX and hated them.
-
18 volts in a daily driver is really waste of time and money. You are looking at a 1 to 1.5db gain if you're lucky. There are alot better, easier, and cheaper ways to gain a db or 2.
Thats about the same as someone in a civic pulling the passenger and the back seats out of the car to save weight so they can get to the grocery store faster.
sorry...thats just my opinion.
-
Wall it. It will be louder.
Only if you put the wall right behind the front seats.

holy shit! each Clarion is 803.84 sq inches of cone area so 8038 total. Thats equivelant to almost 32 18's.

Powermaster FTW.

I'm sure that port is WAY too long
X2!!!
-
so, is this a bad thing ??? box is tuned around 34hz.... can expect more output or less with the ports being 3 1/2" from the door?
yes, your tuning just went down to about 24hz.
much less output but it will sound good with low bass.

As funds permit =] I just couldnt afford number 6.. hope that's only half my stack in the future. then i can think back and say "remember when i only had 6 batteries?" Turned in the 12v's and 88 bucks to be like $428 for 5 8v bats. I put two together in series and they came to 17.7v I think.. Nasty.
lol...cool.

Im not sure if I'm explaining my port right. Its 35 inches in width, its 6 inches in height, and it extends 20 inches into my box (atleast, Im not sure on this yet)
yes. You are explaining it right and i understand. If your port opening is 6" tall (regardless of depth and length) and the edge of it is 6" from your tailgate or back of your car then the area between the tailgate and the back of the box becomes an extension of the port which will tune your enclosure much lower.
example....
if your port is 20" long and the box is 18" tall then you port is now actually 38" long

I got 5 8v GC's today.. more to come.
better be atleast 1 more to come or else you have 1 too many..lol.
gotta keep them in even numbers.
-
How much distance should I start to worry? It might be a little bit less.
well the closer you are to the size of the port ( 6" ) the more it will start to act as an extension of the port and lower your tuning. As long as the box isnt already tuned real low it wont be a problem.

Down fire boxes sound the best and get loud in extended cab chevy's but you are limited on mounting depth. If you fire them up you can go with a deeper sub. I usually do 1 upfire 12 on the driver side with the port firing out the passenger end.

From the back of my seats leaned all the way back, to the back of my hatch, is roughly 47 something inches. Now my box design is 40 inches, giving it 7 inches or less of breathing room. It is a huge 6x35 slot port in the back. I've heard different things about ports and their breathing room, just curious how I can take care of this.
7" of room is fine for a 6" X 35" port.

Yea the job im trying to get has this 200 question plus phy evualation most of the questions are pretty gay , But i just thought about this question i heard it some where now me being a former Marine my answer is pretty obvious but whats yours?
for the test? "Help a friend".
real life? "Hurt an enemy".

argh.. i need to get amps with a normal voltage. lol.
No matter what amps you get, more voltage is always better.
