  1. cartunez...pm sent. i think i am having problems with my pms though, if you have any questions or are interested email me at [email protected]
  2. if you are ok with shipping me your door panels i will do them. pm me if you are interested, i will also show you pics of my other work if you are skeptical
  3. are you talking about doing the whole panel or just some pods across the bottom
  4. i bought paint grade birch from mccoys yesterday at 26.99 a sheet, compared to 25.99 for mdf.... birch is superior on every level to mdf except the ease of working with it...birch is stiffer, lighter, a tad more weather resistant and if im not mistaken has better acoustic properties...if you dont mind the splintering and the extra work.......... BIRCH FTW!
  5. install and individual usage are the most important factors in a subs ability to 'take abuse'. i have seen a single 12w7 ported take 1000 watts all day from a guy who drove his shit hard and never had a prob...i have seen 2 12w7's with 500 a piece sealed blow the fuck up. jl may be pricey, but people are willing to pay top dollar for it and you cant take away from the fact that it is good stuff.. and PS. RF P3's are the only subs i have ever blown
  6. ok got it done here are some pics gmc logo imbossed in the suede insert canyon logo on other side finished box with sub in...i took the mesh thing off the top of the port cover, it looked like ass
  7. the box is gonna be slightly under 6 cubes tuned to 34 hz with about 60sqin of port. here is the shot of the cover panel, suede speaker trim rings, port insert and the potential port cover...on the port cover i actually got window mesh material and painted metallic over our shop logo to get that effect....im gonna stretch it over the port opening, hopefully it will look how im envisioning it, if not it will just get black grillcloth. the middle curves around the cutout were a PITA to get the vinyl tucked in there properly a little shot of the type r logo embossing a look at how the suede rings sit in there...they will actually be inset about another 1/4" right about where the router chamfer starts the box should have been done today but the body shop fucked up on the paint (the little triangle areas in the cover panel will be black to match the truck....)so it has to go back and be reshot. should have finished pics on friday
  8. x2. if you think it might cause a problem you can always build up the matt outside the box...granted its more finish work but its always an option.
  9. to answer the original question, what most people think of as "fiberglass" is anything curved and painted. the curved shape generally is usually just for looks so someone doesnt have just a square box. The actual fiberglass mat part is added in layers to achieve the proper thickness for whatever speakers are used. then you can smooth it enough to wrap or have it painted that glossy look.
  10. i think the closer to square you can get the port the better as far as how much is too much, i have no idea, i didnt there was such a thing....i have seen competitor setups where you can literally walk inside the port. but im not 100% sure on either of these, so someone please clarify if i am mistaken.
  11. i work at what i would consider a pretty "high end" shop, and charge a lot less than the prices you guys are throwing around from other shops. we would charge 400 max for that box, probably more like 350 carpeted, and properly braced for 4 12's as long as we are talking simple rectangle ported box.... 400 for 2 12's slot port? wow, we would charge 250 for that one. and with my commission, when i work on boxes, i make like 50$/hr (only when i work on boxes though, which is a few times every pay period), and thats with fair priced boxes, so those guys are just greedy. what a rip man, sounds like their installer thinks his commission should be what the box is worth.
  12. the amp is on the back of the box, which is carpted in black, nothing special but doesnt look like crap if they drop the back seat down.
  13. yeah its carbon fiber vinyl. and to answer the other question, we deadened the trunk and rear deck, just didnt take any pics of that.
  14. got it done distro block cap another angle lit up dblock lit up cap these shine down on the whole trunk...they actually light it up quite well, its hard to tell even with our doors shut and lights off there was still a lot of light coming in my favorite shot...got the texas logo, the shop logo, and a better look at how it lights up well thats it, feedback is appreciated.
  15. ok this is for a customer of ours...due to time and money constraints i cant do quite what i would like to, but it should still turn our pretty sweet. ok we are putting in 2 memphis M3 15's on a memphis 1000. here is the box and all the panels made (sorry didnt get to take initial build pics) and fitted in....yeah i know those woofer holes are rough i didnt have a circle jig at the time so i had to wing it....but the subs fit all the screws screw into wood and there are no leaks so thats what matters..the false floor will house a lit up black plexi logo another angle...the side panels will house a capacitor and a dummy distro block here i made the trim panels for the side pieces traced where i wanted them to go taped up ready to mold in molded them in...now most people would probably use duraglas on this portion, but im only building about 3/16," so i just used regular filler...if i was painting these i would def. duraglas evercoat z grip is the shit...just as good as any rage product for half the price here i will mold in a raised blue suede shop logo too much hardener...she kicked on me a little too soon...oh well it still worked out fine, had to go back over it though. beautiful...no wonder they made a song about this shit. got the trim panel for the plexi piece all wrapped up here is our shop logo (audio outlet). its kinda hard to see with the flash but in person its actually pretty pronounced heres the logo she wanted...i guess she wants to rep her state when she goes to shows...i may have done something different, but hey whatever here is a piece in the trunk so you can kinda picture the whole theme of the install. i think it looks sweet with those particular materials....i will also wrap that sliver of factory trunkliner in the vinyl as well to keep it flowing.. well thats it for now, i have about 10 hours in it so far im pretty stoked with how its coming out...i should have it done tomorrow so hopefully i will have finished pics up then.
