  1. Its time to refresh this build log! Been a busy summer with Slam, Heatwave, Photobucket took a sh*t, sold my other car, etc etc. Here's some pics from the last build log, since the PB pics arent visible anymore: Cant fit more tire in this car. Bass squat. But that flush tho Roll bar
  2. Hi! I'm rebuilding my Punto for next year events. I bought it 5 years ago so let's start from there: First system including Ultimate T2 12" subwoofer, Twister TW1000 "1000W" amplifier and Hertz low end 6,5" coaxials and JVC head unit. Then there was Pioneer DEH-P5100UB head unit, better Hertz 6,5" coaxials with Focus Acoustics Formula FX-4150 amplifier, SPL Dynamics XTR-380D2S 15" subwoofer, Focus Acoustics Formula FX-1500D 1500W amplifier and Optima 55Ah battery. In the next step I upgraded speakers to 6,5" Hertz Energy ESK163L.4 3-way component system, made bigger and better subwoofer box, added 20Ah BSB battery and some tuning parts. Next I changed Kenwood KDC-BT92SD head unit, added another set of 6,5" Hertz Energy ESK163L.4 3-way component system speakers to rear, changed FX-4150 amplifier to SPL Dynamics ICE-150.4 and 15" XTR subwoofer to Focus Acoustics Black MK5 15D2 15". Then I upgraded the whole system and started to work with the interior. New system: Optima YELLOW TOP 55Ah and 38Ah batteries Focus Acoustics FX-2500D 2500W amplifier Focus Acoustics Black MK5 15D2 15" subwoofers x2 SPL Dynamics ICE-150.4 amplifiers x2 Hertz ESK163L.4 component speaker systems x2 SPL Dynamics SPL-HD25T Horn Loaded Compressor Tweeters x2 Match PP72W-D subwoofers as midbasses at front x4 To be continued in new post
  3. *************[Note: Since photobucket decided to nerf everyone's accounts, a lot of the pictures in this thread are gone. I intend to fix all of the posts but it will take quite a while. Photos start on page 29 currently. In the meantime all of the photos are available on Facebook by searching #projectflexington and many are on Instagram under the same hashtag. Thanks for looking and please don't be afraid to comment! ]************* So figure it is time to start a build log for my 6th order wall. Been working on it for a few weeks now. I'll start by posting the equipment I'm using for the build. Electrical: Batteries: 2 nsb170fts and 2 stinger group 31s: 3 banks of super caps: 2 singer 320amp alternators (these came with the truck, I'm currently in the process of redoing the bracket to strengthen it and add a tensioner but I'll elaborate later): 4+ spools of skyhigh 1/0, knukonceptz 4/0 ofc for alternators (will post pictures later) Terminals, marine grade ring terminals lugs, properly crimped with double wall adhesive lined heat shrink: Subs are 2 sundown x15s rev 1(will be rebuilding for level 6 18s at a later date): Sub Amp, kicker warhorse: Head unit and tweeters, Sony dsx-s210x and 4x Earthquake Screamers, 1.5" 150wrms per pair silk Dome tweeters with replaceable voice coils: Mid bass, 4x dayton audio 10" pa woofers, 300rms each: Mids are tbd, probably 2 8" midrange speakers. Lots of Baltic birch: If you enjoy, please comment!
  4. What's going on, all? A month or so ago, I finished up one of my more fun projects for a friend/customer. Here's a build component list: 1998 Ford Expedition Mechman 270a 12v alt 2 JS 370a 16v alts 2 K2 16v 80ah banks 8 runs Sky High 1/0 OFC (4 pos, 4 neg) 3 DC Audio 5.0 amplifiers 6 Skar Audio EVL 15s Crescendo 1100.4 DB Drive mids/tweets C-pillar wall built by yours truly This thing was an absolute blast to put together. It ended up putting up nice numbers for a c-pillar, especially with budget subs. The wall was built for 6 Level 6 15s, and there will eventually be 6 5.0s. Pictures will be uploaded as soon as they finish uploading to photobucket! There are many, many pictures, as well as a few vids. Stay tuned!
  5. The purpose of this thread is to evaluate and discuss the internal resistance of various batteries and (possibly?) test methods. I’ll start this off by using the DC Load method to test some XS AGM, some K2 73Ah cells, and some K2/JYP 80Ah cells. The DC load method was used because that’s all the equipment that I had available or was able to purchase quickly and on the cheap. Here’s a link for more information on Load Test Methods. http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_measure_internal_resistance Calculation used was Rint = ((Vrest/Vload) -1) x Rload) Where Rint = internal resistance Vrest = Voltage at rest Vload = Voltage once load is applied Rload = resistance of the load resistor Now onto some pictures of the setup. If there is something amiss please chime in so we can figure it out. 1ohm load resistors (although they test out at 0.9ohm) I connected them in series on one end, and I can change the resistance by simply connecting my jumper wire differently. I have the opportunity to connect at 0.45ohm, 0.9ohm, and 1.8ohm. Here's proof of half(ish) ohm, although I didnt use this low of a resistance for data collection: So this connection would be 1.8ohm This connection would be 0.9ohm Here's the 73Ah K2 cells (not JY collaboration batteries) The day before testing, I topped off all the batteries, including the JYP's in the back and the AGMs to the right. 24 hours later, I actually took measurements. Data for the lithiums: Data for the D3400R AGM Looking forward to some comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks for looking!
  6. http://www.ebay.com/itm/302336617415 JY Power says these are a good buy. Anyways, check it out and make your own decision. I have mine on the way already. They wont budge much on the price.
  7. This build has been floating around Facebook recently so i thought i would make a re-build log to show off what work i did to EricR's "Pimpala" for my good friend Taylor. heres the build up until the point my friend purchased it. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/195065-the-pimpala-usaci-sb3-build-log-smd-vm1-and-om1-flushed-in-the-dash-3-dc-level-6-18s-with-powder-coated-ti-baskets/ He recently purchased the vehicle (just the shell, no equipment) and after a week or so of bumping the 4th order with the sp4s he's owned for a while, i convinced him to trust me, and let me work some magic....que the conversion from a 4th order for 3 18s, to a 6th order for 2 18s. But not just any 18s, the mother of all holy woofers (to us)... THE TEAM Fi......weve waited for the day to be able to own and cherish these subs, and Scott at Fi hooked us the FUCK UP. Definitely will be buying new from him from now on list of equipment: Current: 2 x 18" Team FI 1 x DD M3b at 1ohm (zero voltage drop) 1 x bank of caps 1 x 300a GP alt 3 x Soundqubed 6.5" mids (per door) 1 x some shitty 4-channel Final: 2 x 18" Team Fi 1 x DC 10K (sitting in the garage waiting for electrical) 1 x 40ah Juicebox Lithium (getting repaired by Kevin, ETA Dec. 1) 1 x 300a GP alt 3 x Soundqubed 6.5" mids (per door) 1 x some shitty 4-channel for now now for some pics..... We asked everyone at Fi to sign the subs for anyone who doesnt know how much we run Fi
  8. Finally I have a steady job where i can save up to start my build This will be my first build, it will also be SLOW..... But here it is! So i have ordered one of my subs from Sound Solutions audio "FTMFW!" great customer service! I ordered a sundown X-18 d4 and i plan on getting a second one after i get my amp, a SoundQubed 3500.1! I am late starting this, so i have already received some of my things So my ride, 2002 Escalade 6.0 in the snow here is another one with my summer wheels on i know..... they are too small Here is the 3500.1 AMP GUTS!!!!!! Hell yeah! i plan to do a plexi laser engraved backing later down the road! I also ordered a SMD-VM-1 well thats all for tonight, i will post my sub when it arrives!
  9. had some fun trying to blow my 12" N2s. hooked up my buddies 40ah lithium and threw in my other m3b and let the destruction begin. On a stock 80 amp alt and just the lithium i was holding 12s-11s all day, which is gravy for this batt. subs took the beating like a champ, other than bottoming out from being in a box designed for less power, both are still playing like champs, barely smelt coil one time, and on nearly double rated!! Fi FTW as usual.
  10. So i did some searching and didnt really find any general discussion/post that was geared towards the new lithium so i though id post the experience im having with it and see if anyone else chimes in. A little background, me and my buddy Taylor have been into audio for years, i tend to be more into the scientific aspect of it, building enclosures, doing over-kill testing on everything, researching for all the info and reading it until i really understand it, measuring twice and cutting once pretty much, on the other hand my buddy just loves bass and doesnt care to know how it all works, he just cares that it turns on and is loud. anything else is over his head, but lucky for him, hes got the deep pockets to afford to throw money at it to make it work, and a smart friend to solve his problems lol. Previously he was running 5 103ah c&d batteries, 1 x 250amp alt, which were trying to power a dc 9k....obviously it wasnt cutting it. sure it could play, but the 10s werent EVER far away. So after much convincing, a lot of convincing, i talked him into ordering the new Juicebox 40ah lithium, skeptical would be a light way to say he didnt believe me. Not that he ever does, or ever has a reason or the knowledge to rightfully disagree, but nonetheless he did. Well last week the battery finally arrived, and the smile hasnt left his face yet. Juicebox recommended that he have a back up AGM tied in, but i told him to hold off on that and try it just with the 1 battery first to gauge how it would do. 1 dc 9k + 1 Juicebox 40ah and a 250 alt, he hasnt seen the 11's yet, ever, shit he hardly sees the 12s, and even if he had he could be safe into the 10's reliably. This battery is walking all over the 500+ah reserve he once had. Above/below port tuning, its playing with authority and the voltage is always in the safe zone. So for anyone thinking of trying it out but really not sure or convinced, this application is far from perfect, electrically wise, the alternator is much to small to try and support 9k regardless of battery bank, not to mention he never revs to get a decent alternator output, but with this battery there truly are no worries here. heres a picture of the battery next to 1 of the 103ah batteries he previously had. for anyone whos used or seen the 103ah c&d you know they are group 31's and really not very big. the juicebox is about the same length, but a inch or two shorter and half the weight.... it is seriously amazing. ill try to get some videos of it in action soon, JUICEBOX FTMFW
