Sound Deadner Where To Get It And Where To Get It Cheap

Recommended Posts

Its the same thing sept the top one I got from doug instead of foil it has thick fabric it seems to do really well. Ive got flowmasters dumping out under the cab and I can barely hear them. The bottom stuff is another form of peel and seal its more splash guard sealer its rubber and sticks super good but your gonna need 3 layers to = 1 layer of dynamat I ended up putting 2 more layers of the fabrick stuff over the top of it.

you want to have a foil backing. heres a good explanation

"There are a few reasons. Vibration dampers work best when you have a

viscoelastic material (the butyl adhesive) between to fairly rigid

layers. One is the sheet metal of the car. Aluminum foil provides the

other. When the panel and adhesive are moved by sound energy, tension

between the adhesive and both surfaces converts the movement to heat.

Two surfaces work better than one - the concept is called constrained

layer viscoelastic damping (CLVED). Google those terms and you'll get

as

much information as you can possibly use.

In addition to working as a vibration damper, sound deadeners also work

as barriers to actually block sound. Barriers work best when the sound

has to move through layers of very different densities. Mylar is to

close to the adhesive to do much good.

Final, butyl adhesive can burn. Covering it in aluminum foil makes it

self snuffing. Mylar also burns, so it can't provide that extra measure

of safety.

All of these points are publicly known and fairly easily discovered.

The

fact that some companies still choose to cheap out with Mylar tells me

they aren't a company I want to buy anything from :)"
