I rounded the sub holes on the inside of the box like you quoted me, we are talking about the first baffle not the second baffle where the sub looks flush mounted, in other words, the internal edge of the sub hole

I have no idea what you mean  Im sorry.

The baffle is 1.5" thick consisting of 2 3/4" sheets of MDF. I am going to round off the top baffle, the one with the 10.98" holes that go all the way around the sub.

Are you talking about the 2nd layer or the layer underneath that the subs will actually be screwed into? i dont understand how rounding that one off would do anything except give less surface to mount to. But I have to get off SMD I am getting ideas and tempted to go out and work, but I gotta be up early tomorrow, so I need sleep so I dont pass out when I get home and not be able to work on the box. :D

I will have pics for you guys tomorrow of hopefully the trunk, the rounded edges, and maybe some other stuff. We will see how tired I am after work :good:

Day 5:

Well, got out there this morning with high hopes, hoping I would be able to get AT-LEAST the baffle done. But I came up short.

Got the edges double baffle edges rounded off.

31957001.jpg

57594208.jpg

54220732.jpg

I think they came out pretty good. I wanted to do a little more rounding, but this bit worked out fine. I didn't want to go buy another $23 bit.

So then it was time to seal the whole baffle together both layers, so I head over to the nail gun wall and took a few minutes to decide which I should use.

I didn't wanna go with my trusty ol' bostitch thatll shoot a 3" nail through concrete - so I picked something a bit smaller.

64631285.jpg

Hitachi never fails me. So i am looking around, for some finish nails to load up with and you would think with all of this

53673462.jpg

70387348.jpg

that I would be able to find some nails for 1.5" MDF to hold the baffle together. I didn't want to go with screws, since I won’t be carpeting it. So I wanted to use nails that I could easily cover the holes with, with some sawdust and glue. If your familiar with that method.

But all I could come up with was :

87399529.jpg

Well damn. Instead of running up to lowes, I figured I would come inside and do this part of the write up. And in the meantime, think of another idea. Will most likely just clamp it like a sumbitch and lay some weight on it. Maybe get some sneak peak pics of the D6500 that I will be using in the trunk.

Well, I will be back later to finish up todays work, and let you guys know what I accomplished today, I am hoping to have a demo vid by at-least Saturday..We will see.

Till next time! :drinks:

Decided to do a little test fit of the sub.

84310492.jpg

Fits perfect. :D Thank you circle jig.

Well…I felt kinda apt to get this thing together, so instead of going to lowes and getting the 1-1/4" Brad Finish Nails I just figured I would use clamps and glue…lots of glue. Ok, TOO much glue…

11016558.jpg

40426292.jpg

Put a clamp on just about every spot I could. Not really necessary for ALL of them. But can't hurt. This board is NOT coming apart. Set the M3 in the center so it could be a good 20lb center piece.

30987503.jpg

56879255.jpg

Alright, well its drying right now, but I am going to go out there in about 20-30 minutes and sand the edges of it so they're nice and square, or maybe just run it through the table saw and cut off 1/32" on ea. side. that would be much easier.

Any tips?

Well, didn't have much time as its getting dark out here. So i figured one last thing before I call it a day. A little bit of clearing and cleaning the trunk ( a lot more too come )

22639444.jpg

When I was taking out the screws for the battery rack, i noticed they had a bit of rust on them, turns out when I originally did it, i screwed through the car frame D: Damn..Should have got on this forum before I did that build, but since that install I have learned quite a bit from you guys.

Heres a pic:

40470639.jpg

61641583.jpg

I will clean all that tomorrow with mineral spirits, then I will bondo it over and probably just spray paint it white, it'll be hidden anyways. I will also be doing a new false floor as this one is just kind of slapped together with like 1/8" shit wood… Will be doing a new false floor. I’m going to do 1/2" of some wood, not sure what kind yet, don't want to do birch, but might be stuck with it, and MDF probably isn't the best but we will see what I decide to do. So stay tuned for that.

If you recall my first post it was about suspension. Check it out now. Maybe you can compare, I didn't take a before and after tape measure to it. So I am not sure the difference between when I had everything installed and now, but here’s a pic anyways to compare.

47349988.jpg

Little more cleaning and here’s how it turned out in about 20 minutes.

10690183.jpg

That concludes Day 5. Stay tuned to see what I do with it tomorrow! Might be a big day!

Going out to start Day 6 :clapping:

Well, I got a lot of cleaning to do in the trunk if you saw from the pictures, but im gonna make that bishh white again and bondo over the swiss cheesed part where the old battery rack was. Might get around to a few more things, but I will come and do some updates when I am done with that stuff.

Bump for more comments, views, and opinions! What do you guys think a good ulterior to 1/2" Birch would be for the false floor? And any ideas how I can get it in as one piece, or will I have to do two?

Day 6:

Went out and glued/nailed in the center brace for it. Added quite a bit of weight that thing is like 5lbs LOL.

15699279.jpg

54000104.jpg

41961309.jpg

Still had to liquid nail the edges of the box, this thing is gonna be SOLID. Pretty sure it'll break the MDF in half before it breaks at the seams. I had to use 2 tubes of liquid nail, because it had been sitting a few months, I wasted most of it in the trash can trying to get to stuff that wasn't messed up, I guess even being in air conditioning it can't sit for very long, so take note of that.

94716117.jpg

74125323.jpg

With the liquid nail in place, and the brace in place, it was time to put this thing together! :yahoo:

Lots of clamps!! This picture was after I wiped the glue from the edges, but I had glue seeping out all edges, so it has a GOOD ass seal especially with all those clamps.

57453354.jpg

Took the clamps off after an hour or so, and the box is looking good, I am going to need to sand the edges of it a bit. Make them perfect and smooth. Then a few more things to the box and it will be complete. This things going to be a lot louder! :drinks: I have a Nikon D5000 that I paid like 700$ for its a DSLR that shoots HD video. I wonder how it'll do for SPL videos or if it’s just too much. I know some cameras handle it pretty well. That or I can use the FLIP video camera that I have. I will take a few videos in a few days when it’s done. But for now I got to do a bit more work on it, such as drilling the threaded bolt for the speaker wire terminals etc. I’ll take a few pics of it, but it’s nothing too new.

Here’s the box after clamps were removed. That baffle is on TIGHT!

42429481.jpg

Ran out of time today, but got more progress tomorrow. ANDDD am for sure not going to use the Power Acoushit amp. Got something 25x better hint hint. But won't tell you what it is just yet. Maybe when I get it :D Stay tuned my friends. This should be loud !
