So Project: HMROID is a 1990 Mazda B2200. It's a side project that is going to take some time to complete due to limited funds. So far I've lowered it 3" in front and 5" in back, painted it a pale green and changed a few small things out on it. I have an Alpine H/U, Alpine SPS-600 speakers in doors and rear, 2 Boston Acoustics SPG555-2 subs, a Kicker 10ZX350.4 and 2 Kicker 10ZX750.1 amps for the subs. I'm almost done building the sub/amp enclosure for the truck, maybe this weekend I'll get it put together.

Future plans are for the truck to be on airbags, body dropped, full sheet metal bed, custom frame, shaved body, 20" wheels, Fiber glass all over the interior, new turbo engine, etc. all while still being able to be driven everyday.

Anyway here's some pics...

here's how it started out

This is the first box/enclosure I've ever built. The sub boxes are 1 cubic foot sealed. They will get mounted inside the enclosure with the amps infront. It's all 3/4 inch MDF. I should have done 1/2" MDF, but I didn't think about that when I drew out the plans and got the wood. Oh well, it's just a little extra heavy. The enclosure is 53" wide, so it should be a tight fit in the truck.

I have to cut a new top piece. The one in these pics is 3/4 of an inch too narrow form front to back. After that I'll put one set of Alpine SPS600's in the top piece next to the subs. Eventually I'll prep it for paint, but that will be a little while before I can get it painted professionally.

Clean! Going to be a bit different than most builds you see too. Me like.

I've wondered how those Boston Subs sound.

They sound great. I'm sure they could put out some good SPL #'s if they were in a ported box, but I listen to rock/metal so no ported for me.

No real update yet, I've been kind of lazy this weekend. I did however get the top re-cut and put the whole thing together to see what it looks like. Here's some pics. I screwed the top no from the underside so there are no screw heads to see, I think it came out pretty good.

I finally got off by butt and put the enclosure in my truck. I didn't run the wires or hook anything up. I just wanted to see how it fit and looked all put together. I am very happy with the end result. I think I will take the top piece back off and flush mount the 6.5 inch speakers. They kinda look like an after thought right now. Anyway here's how it turned out.

Side window is pretty dirty, sorry...

Should be pretty loud with the subs pointed up right behind your head!

  • 1 month later...

So I finally got around to finishing the install. The box is resinned, sanded and painted. The paint color is the same as the truck, Celery Green. I did flush mount the 6.5"s so they don't look like an afterthought anymore. I'm very happy with the quality of the set-up. It gets loud and moves enough air (sealed box) to vibrate the rear window pretty violently. I'll have to try and get some video of that. Anyways onto the pics....
