matt@mechman Posted November 24, 2011 Report Share Posted November 24, 2011 the alt makes hardly any power at idle.. i was told about 80a or so.. and after a minute of idling the alt is already hot, thats from a cold start There again- When discussing the options, we told you that the 400 amp COMPETITION unit is NOT designed for idle output and will need to be revved in order to do much of anything. If you wanted good output at idle, you should have bought the 270. I thought our answer regarding the unit getting hot was pretty clear, but if you would rather get input from people who don't know anything about alternators, that's fine by me.
