Sky High Car Audio's DC Audio GMC Sierra UBL

Recommended Posts

THIS IS MY UBL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE COMMENTS PLEASE LEAVE THEM ON MY OTHER PAGE:

http://www.stevemead...ks-new-pics-up/

I want to do it right the first time so i can stop rebuilding every 3 weeks (probably wont work)

I have been planning this build for a while but did not want to post it until I was ready to start work on it.

Now that the semester is winding down i will have some time to work on this through christmas break and have it done ASAP

All of the planning is done, the box is designed and disassembly of the old system will start today.

If you guys saw my old build it was this:

http://www.stevemead...d-video-posted/

Here is the list of products that will be included:

(6) DC Audio XL 15s added spiders, reinforced surround, direct leads etc

(2) DC Audio 12k amps

(2) DC lvl 2 8"s in a sealed box

(1) DC 2.0k to run the 8s

(1) DC 175.4 for the mids

(8 ) Rainbow 5.25s...2 in each door and 2 in each pillar

(4) Rainbow tweets running of the HU with bass blockers at 2300 hz

(1) Mechman 270 alt

(1) Singer 350 alt

(1) DC power dual alt bracket

Pioneer 4300 double din in the console

iPad in the dash (left over from last build)

More suede on the door, rear door panels are coming off and getting covered in wood to add width

Lots of foam and more deadener

XS Power VCM

Knu power wire, speaker wire, and signal cable

Clarion EQ for the highs and mids

Toolmaker dual inputs for the 12ks

Batteries: undecided but i will get plenty when the time comes. it will be 12 volt though

I am sure i'm missing something.

There will be a fully custom center console (with a lot of fiberglass work for shaping...not a square custom console..I'm sorry i hate those) that will hold the four DC 8s, Pioneer 4300, XS VCM, voltage meters, switches to be able to turn off the door amp and mid amp if necessary and plexiglass amp rack for the DC 2.0. It will connect with the front of the dash and to the box itself in the rear.

Amps will mount on the side of the box (12ks on drivers side and 175.4 on passenger side with room for other 12k later on)

The pillars are going to hold a total of 4 Rainbow 5.25s and 4 Rainbow tweets that will all be made to fit with fiberglass pods. The doors will be similar to my old door pods but I went with smaller speakers so I could angle them towards the driver and passenger instead of doing 6.5s like i had before and having to leave them flat on the doors.

The batteries will be in the bed and wires will run through front of bed and back of cab behind the box. I am not sure what brand i will go with but i want to do 6-7 batts per 12k (due to my insufficient charging system...about 750 amps in a perfect world...but i dont have a choice i have a big block 496 and no more room for anything more than 2 alts) and 1 in the front to run the 175.4 and 2.0k.

The subs will be on the passenger side of the box and have interchangeable ports on the drivers side. There will be 3 ports the main will be a 35 hz or a 30 (depending on which one i like more) then when the port is removed it will leave the thickness of the baffle (2.25") by the dimensions of the port to make a 51 hz port that will be nice and efficient for burps. 51 is where my truck likes to burp at btw. The other 2 ports (35 and 30 hz) will have 3" ABS tubing round overs on the outside and round overs on the inside also.

The 35 and 30 hz ports will be 280 cubic inches (15 inches per cube) and the 51 hz port will go up to 420 cubic inches (19 inches per cube)

Overall I am really excited about this build and have high expectations for it once its all done.

Let me know your thoughts I will have pictures later on today when i get to work.

Edit:

Here are the pics from page 2 that i uploaded after this post:

3.jpg

I ground the tabs off so i can flush mount all the door speakers

I know they are the cheaper rainbows but i figure they will still be really nice...and having that many as close to you as i plan on having them im sure they will be loud

6.jpg

8.jpg

Here is some of the wire. there is much more on the way but all my rcas, speaker wire, sub wiring etc is in there

10.jpg

Many many cans of this going in there.

Deadener is also on the way.

So if you are wondering sometimes why i do not get that much done per day on this build here is the reason:

11Packages.jpg

I wake up at 6 am and do this packaging for the day then go to the university then back home to work on the truck them once its freezing back to packaging (or put the heater in the truck and continue work)

but this should give you some insight into my day lol

started the flush mounts for the rainbows also

11routerwholes.jpg

i have to glue them together and clamp them but they will be done today...

Off to the post office now then back to work

So i finally got something done on these door pods.

12doorpods.jpg

13doorpodstest.jpg

Just had to use the panel for fitment with the parking brake

these door panels are now off and and the sponge paint camo shit is coming off for a plain black...going for a cleaner look that isnt so crazy more of a clean look this time.

the sponge paint was cool for about 2 week then i was over it

18otherpodfabric.jpg

17fabricstretched.jpg

19bothtogether.jpg

So I am about to put some resin on these and have these things sanded by the end of the day at least.

I might get my pillars started also.

38doorpodsin.jpg

God them in and the door panels back on (no controls on them yet because i have to sand and paint them still)

37doorpodsintop.jpg

36Doorpodsinfront.jpg

Still havent got put the other door pod on or try them out to see how they sound because the box isnt in yet to mount the amp to so i dont want to waist my time putting the amp in (even hooking the rca to 3.5 mm jack to the amp) /

I am ready to see how these sound off the 175.4..i guess that just means i need to get my ass in gear and get this box built huh? :peepwall:

Did some good stuff today along with spending like 3 hours at DC....the van is loud...i have a head ache still and that was like 5-6 hours ago...mother fucker pounds

On to a real note heres what i got going today....

52foam.jpg

51foam.jpg

50foam.jpg

49foam.jpg

53knuwire.jpg

Got some wire today too lol

AND I PUT THE PILLARS IN A SECOND AGO AND SOMETHING BOTHERED ME ABOUT THEM....SO HERE IS WHAT THEY LOOK LIKED LIKE AND WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE NOW.....

45Pillarinoutside.jpg

47pillarcutoff.jpg

Had to take this pic of the tops cut off

48pillarbare.jpg

BACK TO SQUARE ONE

I am not sure what it was about them....well i am actually when you open the door the one closest to you looked like they were too far out and it annoyed me because of how cool the ones opposite of your position looked...they were really cool but the one closest to you looked dumb i think...

So i guess i am goin to stick to one mid and 2 tweets in each a pillar and find somewhere else for the other one set of mids...maybe in the console facing the passengers or on the top of the wall depending on how the box plays out.

So if you have any input on where to put them please let me know

O and the best part of today is i saved myself money...kind of a lot too...i love saving money..though it may not look like it as the tab for this build is beginning to get ridiculous lol

If you want to save some money PM me and i can do this for you too..way less than other dual inputs lol

44dualinputs.jpg

43Dualinputs.jpg

so i took a dual 2/0 ring terminal and ground the ring part of the terminal down to flat then made a notch in them to let the set screw sit down into that notch which makes a better long term hold with all the vibrations itll be under
