haromaster87 Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Hey guys, So I'm in the process of designing the next part of my system. A few details about my build. I'm working with a 1984 Mercedes 300D. I removed my back seat for subwoofer placement. I didn't want to lose all of my trunk space and those cars are notorious for having poor bas response from trunk mounted subs, due to the amout of material between the trunk and cabin. The build all has an old school vibe to it with the way I'll be setting up the speakers and with some of the components. Anyway, In the back seat, I have built a platform across the bottom and I currently have two prefab boxes housing my two 12" Old school MTX subs. I used the prefab boxes as when I actually build a proper enclosure it'll house more then those two 12"s. I've decided I want to mount an 18" subwoofer in a large enclosure and dedicate it to all of the lower bass frequencies, then I'm going to keep the two 12"s, but in different enclosures, and they will handle the mid bass type frequencies. I know this seems a little overly complicated, and will be a pain in the ass to tune(if it can be tuned) but I want to try it. After quite a bit of research I've vome to the AQ HDC3 18" subwoofer as my best bet. I'm currently using one of the new Soundstream Ref1.500 amps for my 12"s, and will be using a Soundstream REF1.1000 for the 18". The one thing I've read about this box besides that it is great for the money and what not, is that it needs a well built enclosure. I'm figuring 3/4 MDF with probably a 1 1/2 Thick baffle, flush mount the sub, lots of bracing, etc. So that I'm fine with, but if I'm going to go through that much trouble, I don't want to just cobble together a box design. The prefabs I'm using are ported and while they do okay, I realize the limitations of the sub due to the box design. So I really want to make sure everything is desinged properly for my enclosure. I've been messing with a couple of software's, and while they give me ideas on sizes and stuff, they aren't very helpful in really assisting in the design. Is there anyone on the forum who can help me out with an enclosure design? I know this is something most people pay for, but I don't think I'm looking for anything that extensive. I just need someone who can answer a few questions for me and work with me on it. Btw, I did search around for this, but I just kept finding software recommendations. haha Thanks guys!
