My names Trevor, im 21 in a couple months, from Southern California, and currently on my 3d year in college. Im new to SMD but not new to the car audio forums. I've been on CA and SSA for about 3 years and joined DIYMA a couple months ago. When I heard about the forum figured I'd share my build log with you guys and see what you have to say. So lets get started here... couple months ago I got my dream car, an Audi A4 B8. Picked it up used (2010 with 25k miles) for a decent deal. Ofcourse the first thing I have to upgrade is the audio system. So here is a few pictures of the car then I will get into what is going in it... And here is what I plan on making it look like once I can get the funds for rims and suspension... Now as for the goods. I will be putting in a Fi Q 12d2 with cooling, spider, and silver dustcap in the trunk powered by a Sundown SAX-1200D. I purchased my amp refurbished from db-r. My box is being built by DonH and will be 2.2cubes ported at 32hz. The box dimensions are 35x16x12in with the baffle on 35x16. The box is going to be wrapped in black carpet and have a silver kerfed port to match the dustcap and my interior. Here is some photos...
Point.Blank Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 First thing I did while waiting for my shipments to come was sound deaden the trunk lid and back cabin. I had 7 or so sheets of Damplifier pro laying around so figured I'd put it to use. Feel like I got the back cabin pretty good and did about 35% of the trunk. Might be getting some MLV and CCF from SDS soon for the trunk but will definately be getting some products from him for working on my two front doors. After I finished with the rear deck I dissconnected the sub and will leave the hole for air from the trunk to enter the cabin. Here is how much I have done so far...
Point.Blank Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Getting into some of the technical... I will be using an Audiocontrol LC2i to hook up the SAX too my factory amp. Unfortunately I cant get rid of the factory amp because It has functions for me vehicle that I cant afford to give up. I plan on keeping my head unit and factory amp throughout the whole build. I've already layed down all the wire to be ready for when my box is done. I've got all Knu wire with 0ga power wire for the sundown amp. I had Project db make me some pretty sweet 90* reducing terminals that fit perfectly with my amp being so close to the floor. I placed a strip of electrical tape on the insides of the reducers for precaution. For my amp rack I used the factory rack and flipped the factory amp on the back side of it. After some trial and error I got the sundown amp to fit on the front side of the amp rack. Everything is nice and secure.
Point.Blank Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Since my left stock tweeter is broken I figured I might as well upgrade my front stage while still keeping my factory amp. This is untill I can afford the ms-8 and a multi-channel amp to go with it but thats in the future. I ordered some sensitive speakers that dont need much power, yet still are known for great sound. I ordered Dayton reference 6" woofers for the doors and a 3" for the center channel. Since the Dayton tweeters are oversized and I don't have much room I wen't with the Vifa tweeters since I was told they would be a good match.
