_Vince
I'm trying to help a friend out and see if I can fix his problem for him. He's running a JL 500x1 Slash (I think this amp is 2 ohm stable) on 2 JL W3 10" 4ohms. He says when he plays music at about 20-23 on a JVC headunit, the bass would cut out. He goes back to check on it, the amp is burning hot on touch. I'm thinking the ohms are wrong? 2 4 ohm JL subs on that amp should be wired to 2 ohms correct? If it matters, this is installed in a 2005 Infiniti G35 Edited May 15, 2012 by _Vince

blkgp_03
Are the subs SVC or DVC? He might be clipping the crap out of it. Check all connections again and again. _Vince
where is the amp grounded to edit: is the paint sanded off where its bolted to? cause its supposed to. Not sure, I'll check that when I take his system apart. If that's the problem, new ground should fix his problem? Are the subs SVC or DVC? He might be clipping the crap out of it. Check all connections again and again. There's SVC's. what should I be checking for? proper metal contact?
Jessica
Does your friend think that the gain knob is a volume control? _Vince
Does your friend think that the gain knob is a volume control? nope, gains were set with DD1 and hasn't been changed since. Only thing changed since DD1 is on headunit: frequencies
Jessica
Ok, which track did you set the headunit with and which track did you set the amp with? _Vince
Ok, which track did you set the headunit with and which track did you set the amp with? I don't remember track # but I know it's the one for sound quality, not loudness.
Jessica
Probably not clipping then, Like Kranny said, check grounds.
