help my 4th order or ported wall build aq 3500d.1/3 xcon 15s

Recommended Posts

are all years of xcons the same? that would help me out when buying.

I need an opinion on what I have planned, picking up an amp in the next few days. The space seems low. It can't be much bigger or the port would be pretty narrow. It's 1:2.6 ratio with the port divider (15/5.75).

alero 4 door

aq 3500d.1 picking it up soon. .8 ohm 3 15's, hopefully ssa xcons

1 or 2 xs batts and a singer 270A alt (i have to pay about $520 instead of 429 because im in canada).

4th order wall port on top subs up fire magnets in ported portion with port blockers because im not going to cut angles and screw things up.

.75" of rubber matting or MDF on the floor filled in with 2x4s and foam. Slightly less complicated.

The box height ends with the top of the head rests and from there down to where the larger portion of the seat is is the port (so the seat isn't obstructing the port).

Beauty panels and straps downs or something, I don't know. I'm not going to screw up bolting something into my car. I don't want to build inside it, I don't know what I'd be doing. I can build this big box though, I've been designing boxes for years but I don't know how much space these would need, 1.5 sealed & 2.5 ported sounds small doesn't it? It produced nice before cabin gain, 0dB @ 60 Hz & 35 Hz. I think after cabin gain it wouldn't be so bad. It's -3dB @ 31 Hz, -6dB @ 28 Hz.

Is this an inefficient design? Can someone plot it for me, after cabin gain? Would be much appreciated!

outside 27 x 49.5 x 24

yes it will fit

port 5.75 x 30.75 x depth 20.375

1.5 sealed each

2.5 ported each @ 45 Hz

23" of port per cube

It could be 3 ported/1 sealed. The difference between ported isn't much at all (1dB) but the 4th order has a +6db peak at 36-37Hz when tuned to 40 Hz, it is the same as ported before 32 hz and after 45 hz (45 hz @ 0dB), 60 Hz @ -5dB. Would 1 cube sealed be choking it? Is 3 too small? 42.5 hz port tune = 0dB @ 50 hz w/3 & 1 cubes (more preferable if 2.5 & 1.5 is too low).

2.5 & 1.5 have a +4db peak over ported between 35-55 Hz.

I was told that bandpasses are distortion monsters. thats not true if you set it up properly, right? if you set the gains and the filters correctly how could you go wrong? do they not provide good lows down to 20hz or something and move a lot of air up top?

Will I even gain with a 4th order or should I just stick with 12 cubes @ 32.65 Hz (12" of port per cube/adjustable tuning)?
