Amp Knobs?

What is the difference between an amp gain knob and an amp bass know. Is it the way they hook into the amp and stuff? Kind of a stupid question, but i wanted to know that way whenever i got an amp id know how to set the knob up according to the gain on the amp.

As far as I know, there is no difference. When setting your gain, leave the knob all the way up, that way when you're listening to music, no matter how high you turn the knob, you don't reach your distortion point.
