Any GM Colorado/Canyon Owners?

My friend is looking at a small pickup to replace his aging Nissan. He's actually looking at a 2004 Z71 Crew Cab with the 3.5 I5 in it. Nice truck, with a rebuilt title (which we will be checking into EXTREMELY extensively (if that makes sense...). He's a deputy director for the local EM office, so he's going to use it as a daily and for emergency response, and this one has the bench seat, so he can add a small console. But, anyone had any noticeable issues with theirs? How about gas mileage? I read most places are seeing anywhere between 17-25mpg depending on driving style.
