k well i started on the back part of the box its 42x30 16''3/4 tall in front dips down to 6'' in the back

That puts you right at 6.6ft^3 if you're using 3/4".

thank you thats all i was asking for i was thinking of putting another 3/4'' on all the sides and cutting the depth down from 30'' to 25'' with 1.25'' thick walls. would that get to 4.5 cubs?

That depends. will the box still be 16 3/4" tall in the front, and 6" tall in the rear after you've shortened the depth to 25"? What will be the new dimensions?

ok i cut the 30 down to 19'' so its 41x17x19 with a 3'' top and the back is 9'' 1/2 instead of 6

So it's 41"L x 19"D and it's now 17" tall up front and tapers down to 9.5" in the rear? Are you still going to do 1.25" thick walls for the whole box?
