Jordan Guess
Finally decided to do a build log; with a month left before I shipped out to start BMT for the Air Force to become an EOD specialist, i wanted some time off to work out and indulge in my addictive car audio hobby. My original build in this car before I even really knew what I wanted to do had an AQ2200 and two AA havoc 12's D1. I was lazy and cheap with the build so the box sucked, it wasn't enough power for the havocs...and my electrical was lacking at LEAST an extra battery. So as a random turn of events, and selling that car audio stuff. I ended up with this: note: a HUGE shout out to Jon Rabe from Sky High Car Audio, most of my products purchased and the idea's for the box came from him. He is only located about an hour and a half away from me, and i firmly believe in supporting small business and entrepreneurship, so thanks Jon....not to mention I HAD to see and listen to his truck; it was the first big system i have ever heard. where i live, this hobby doesn't really exist and until i met him I had never heard anything louder than just 1 mediocre 15" sub. Listening to his setup really inspired me to get into DC audio.......... So on to DC Audio I went: 1 Arc Audio Bxi 2000.1 (received in exchange for the havocs) 2 DC Audio Lvl 3 M2 D1 12's (SHCA) 1 Stinger SPP1200 battery in the back (SHCA) 1 Interstate Lead Battery Up front. 1 Precision Sounds 6" Aero Port Various Sizes and Lengths of Wire purchased from SHCA. Brands are Bullz Audio, and some new wire that he has been designing (amazing stuff) 2 Bullz Audio fuse holders (1 for the front batt, 1 on the back batt [sHCA] Pioneer DEH 8400 for the head unit Axxess Wiring Harness Adapter for the head unit (damn VW's) Stock speakers (I found that the premium sound package on my Jetta was excellent....and also amplified, so i wanted to leave it stock until something broke). I also didn't want to alter the interior of the car in any way, so you wont find me fiberglassing in this build log...sorry guys. Stock Alt (120 amp) Fat Mat Sound deadening As of today, everything listed above is installed and playing...however, i am taking the box out to finish some sanding and painting it, so i can't get a vid of the current setup yet. Im sorry. My next step after that is to figure out how to seal my box off from the trunk without destroying the interior or using expanding foam...so input on that with your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will start uploading pics in about 2 hours, just looked at the clock and saw that its time to go to the gym.
Ryya
I can't wait to see this! I have an '03 gli as well and have been working on my build log. These cars aren't the most popular on car audio forums it seems. My Build Log - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLI VR6 2.8L
Jordan Guess
Managed to dig up a snap shot of what i had in between the havocs and the DC's. this is my first DC lvl 3 D1 I got, was running it at 2 ohms on that powerbass ASA 600.1x (600rms at 2). Box was from when i had 2 DD 1508's and i just covered up the holes and cut out a slot for the the 12....tuned to around 38hz. heres the jetta. bought it for $9000, only had 67k miles on it, pretty much brand new. decided I wanted to black out my tail lights, so I wet sanded them...here is one before and the other is after here they are blacked out, for some reason the inner bulbs decided to light up with the flash of my camera
Jordan Guess
rear hatch before dampening...bunch of small odd triangular cutouts so it made it hard to dampen. Decided instead of a bunch of little triangles ide do the panel the comes off of the hatch the AQ2200 i used to have...not really necessary but just wanted to show that it was once there and part of my progression lol ground wire from wheel well wires and naked wheel well dampened
Jordan Guess
On the third build, jordan saw that the one sub was lonely and needed a companion. So Jordan took the rib of the one sub and then created it a partner, and jordan saw that is was good. box building begins cutouts for the subs and aero port didnt know i ordered a bazooka quick shot of the amp decided I wanted my port green, so here is the third coat port glued together and mounted, fit perfectly.
