Alpine Mrd M1005 'cur' error

I have an Alpine Mrd M1005 amp powering two Alpine Type R 12's wired at 2ohms.

Recently the amp went into 'cur' mode, i wasnt pushing the system, it was just on as background noise whilst going for a drive.

Ive had the subs and amp for a year now, and have never had any problems with them until now.

Ive read the owners manual and it says that the problem is due to excessive current. Ive tried disconnecting the speaker wires, and rca's to check that either of the subs havent blown which would cause excessive current, but it still pops up with 'cur' as soon as the amp is switched on.

There was no burning smell in the car at all.

Ive redone the ground wire, checked over the power wire and there seems to be no problems.

When the amp switches on (with subs connected) it makes a thud noise then goes straight into 'cur' mode.

Would you say the amp is dead? Im not worried about the subs as ive just bought Ground Zero subs, but it would be helpful if i could use this amp to power one of my new subs, and m1005 to power the other sub.

are you SURE that the power wire isnt shorting to ground/metal? even a single strand can cause amps to just stop functioning.

I am sure. If i single strand was touching the metal of the amp, could this also cause the same problem?

yeah that may be able to cause it too. the casing is used as a ground for some of the internal components, i think...but dont quote me on that.

Ok, ill go check that for sure.

Apart from that, would the amp be blown? i took it apart yesterday, an nothing looked cooked or out of the ordinary on the circuit board. So im kind of at a loss at the moment.

Still have this problem. No wires are grounding out on anything or touching the metal of the amp
