Gumby688
I picked up a HO 240 amp alternator that was in a 95 explorer. I have a 2000 explorer 4.0 sohc. I noticed that the ho alternator has an extra plug between the output terminal and the regular harness plug. I am wondering if alt will fit in my 2000 explorer and what if anything I need to change. Gumby688
ok got some pics for you guys I am pretty sure there are 2 different alts for the explorer 1 is for the 4.0 SOHC which I have and the other is for the OHV 4.0 litre. ok first pic is what I have in my truck now and second pic is what I want to put in the truck. The extra wire I am talking about is the one between the harness plug and the output terminal. x91evo
looks like a slightly different design, But the connector looks the same?
Gumby688
Yes the connector is the same only difference is the oreintation of the wiring which I am going to replace the factory output wiring with 0 guage anyways and that extra single wire plug Clarion CX-501 HU Rockford Fosgate Punch 400-A4 on Rockford Fosgate T152 5.25 in center console and Rockford Fosgate T1682 in front factory Rockford Fosgate T2500-1BDCP on subs 6 12inch RF HX2's in 13.4 cuft. tuned to 30 with port in 47 with it out 240 Amp American Armature Alt 100AH C&D in back Optima Yellow top up front
x91evo
I would say its probably a good idea to make sure the pulleys are the same size also.I have heard of some stories were a smaller pulley caused some problems.
Gumby688
Yeah actually I have a smaller pulley already installed on the alt makes it put out 170 amps at idle. The groves in the pulley are the same but if it becomes a problem I can take the pulley from the stock alt and use it.
