briber500 Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 3 10" JL Audio subs in rear deck. I know subs and equipment are old school but this install is for the wife and she doesn't need alot. Its not ground shaking and isn't setting spl records, but its clean sound with really nice bass! This build was hard due to spacing issues with the seat belt and windshield. Not to mention the actual metal is well below the carpeted deck cover you see. The hole for the box was cut smaller than box and a jack was used to push box through opening so its tight. Then angle iron was used to reinforce box to the deck. Wife had no back seat for a week and let me know everyday! Lol. 6 1/2 Pioneer 3way finished off the sound and cut stock grills to fit around subs and mids. Here is a description of the build. My first thought was to mount prefab box to bottom of metal deck, mount deck cover, then sandwhich metal deck and deck cover inbetween subs and box. When I removed deck cover I saw metal deck was well below cover and angled to allow for seatbelt components. After thinking I continued with plan and was going to remove seatbelt components to allow cover to sit down on deck. After removing sealtbelt shoulder strap mec. wife walks out and says no way. if thats only option then put it back to stock. I thought a few minutes not wanting to abandon project. So after more cutting, a jack, some angle iron and some tight clearances I had this. Seatbelt Shoulder strap back in and reinforced the metal deck underneath around where bolt goes through. Because of repositioning the box back closer to windshield to keep seatbelt components, I had the bare minimum required space to allow subs to drop in to box. The three back screws on each sub had to be put in at an angle and by hand with a stub phillips, tightening screwdriver with channel locks. The picture does reflect as to how tight it was! In the trunk I mounted amps and cap on box with the blue led's. She didnt want me taking apart dash for a remote wire so I installed a switch for amps. She loves it because with the push of a button she can shut down everything in the rear and just listen to front speakers. Anyone who sits in back doesnt get blasted out and kids can watch movies or listen to IPODs in peace. When current and vibration liquify solder and shake apart glass fuse in mydistribution block, wife says, "that's probably an indication you have too much!"My response is, "nope the older I get, the less I hear, so much more is required!" LMAO....
