Remote wire and head unit help please

My system has been hooked up fine for about 1-2 months working fine. I went to the store and it was working all the way to the store, I shut my car off and when I came back it wasn't working. My amp wasn't powering up checked all the wires and they look fine, I trouble shooted and the problem is my head unit is not giving my amp a 12v signal through the remote wire. I left the remote wire connected to the head unit and put a jumper wire from the power to the remote and my amp turned on, I played my music and the subwoofer sounded shitty! It scared me and I got stumped, some 1 told me to use the red 12v for a signal on my head unit and another told me to put the remote wire to the battery instead of the head unit and neither turned the amp on, when I put the jumper on today I tried a different sub and it made the same shitty sound as my first sub did
