SQ SUBARU Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 My buddy is adding a second battery, I was just wanting to know what I would look for when adding a second battery and mainly is there a formula or rule of thumb to know how big / what size the second battery should be, in respect to the alternator size. How do U know how much the alternator can provide to 2 batteries? Also should the second battery voltage be the same as the original battery?Or do they differ? If so why. Do u look at cca or amp hours in a battery? Cheers. LoudBimmer Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 The size of second battery really depends on what you need it for. The voltage should be same all around. However, it's not recommended mixing old batteries with new, especially if they rest at different voltages. I usually look at amp hours when adding batteries.
