Chris617 Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 I have 2 12" kenwood subs at 250 watts rms and a 500 watt alpine mrp m 500 amp. I want to know where my gain, bass eq, and lp filter should be at
KickersintheTrunk Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 Well LPF filter is personal preference. 40-60 is a good place to start. As far as setting the gain you can use a DMM, look up a video tutorial on youtube. You can try to tune by ear but don't really recommend that because it isn't all that accurate. Or you can buy a DD-1 which will give you an optimal gain. Bass eq is the same as bass boost if I remember correctly and should be left alone because that's where distortion enters the system. Crandis16 Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 find a buddy with an oscilloscope... 1. find what volume the deck clips at without bass boost and your choice of subwoofer level 2. at the volume level that you determined, play a test tone that is relevant to the music that you are playing (without sub wired up) and set the gain on the amp until you see distortion (with remote gain knob all the way up I think that's good. please correct me if I'm wrong. I feel like I left something out. A lot of times the remote gain knob that comes with your amp will be kinda iffy. Mine for my sundown SAZ-1500D v2 was bad and made popping noise when adjusting the remote gain. I picked up a PAC LC-1 and haven't had issues since then.
