SuperMidget Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 I completed my basement budget build you can see here a while back for a grand total of $525 and have been shockingly surprised with the outcome. While it has been fun and is still a great cheap setup for my daily driven beater. I only paid $1,300 for the Explorer and refused to put more system in it than it cost me so i planned and set my cheap install in motion. But.... now i'm in the mood to step things up a notch. The weather was nice this weekend and while tooling around in the yard i soon found myself tape measure and phone in hand taking measurements for available space. I started with this. I then began plugging in dimensions into a few box/port calculators and fired up the trusty ole MS Paint to design this little gem of an idea. It clocks in at around 16.5 cubic feet of space in the box before subs/bracing and i can easily tweak it but picked 35hz for the port just to get an idea for measurements. Tuning the port has lots of room to play with up or down since at 35hz it is only 18" long. This setup would allow for about 6" between the box and my rear gate while only sitting about as tall as the headrests on my rear seats. If i carry out the idea it will be made out of 3/4 mdf with a double baffle/bracing and house who knows what for cheap subs to continue on with my budget theme. Might even throw 2 more $50 lanzars in there for shits and giggles. Any ideas on how well it might work? changes i should consider?
