11 malibu H/O alt

hello I just bought a  300 amp 6 phase h/o alt.  I installed the alt and now (only) when am driving  my power steering light then its a esc light then the   check engine light will come on in that order 

I tried a smaller belt but its the smallest I can fit and I changed the tensioner

only thing I can think is  the factory alt had a wire that ran from the alt to the starter  when I installed the new alt that wire didn't reach so I never hooked it up  the alt is internally regulated

if anyone has had this problem before and has a clue what's causing it any help would be great
