PsyCro Posted April 10, 2017 Report Posted April 10, 2017 Hey everyone, newcomer here, first post and all. Gonna get right down into the nitty gritty if you don't mind ? I have a problem concerning passive crossovers, but just to let you in on the setup first: 80prs hu , PG M44 amp, 2 Hertz 8 inchers in a sealed fiberglass/mdf enclosure, rear fill for rear passengers.. this is all setup and working. The front stage is where i've come to a bit of a standstill. Door panels are the only options (no kick space), HU standard mode only (no active no how). I have a nice speaker set for the front stage but am not sure how its gonna work out, so thats what i'm trying to figure out. It consists of old QM Quart 6.5's and tweets, Quart 3 way crossover, and the kicker.. Canton/pullman 4" mids. When i bought this all way way back i was told it all plays together nicely, but now i'm trying to make sure thats true before i go cutting the door panels for the mids, so i've been experimenting at home. Hooked it all up and threw test tones at it and some music of course. Musically it sounds fine, but accordng to voltage taken at specific frequencies there is something a'miss, or, maybe i just don't get it. Here's some notes i made if it helps: these are voltages for given frequencies (MB midbass, M midrange, T tweet):- 50 hz, MB .083, M .850- 100 hz, MB 1.044, M 1.038- 250 hz, MB .406, M .798- 500 hz, MB .188, M .550- 1000 hz, MB .108, M .431, T .011- 2000 hz, M .343, T .042- 4000 hz, M .218, T .121- 8000 hz, M .083, T .144 The crossover frequency points are 250 and 4000hz. According to the above 'most' eveything is basically ok, except it seems bass frequencies aren't being attenuated for the mid output, at least voltage wise. Sound wise the midbass is certainly putting out more bass than the mid, so i'm wondering if the above results are actually ok.. maybe thats the way it supposed to be?? I also tried playing only the mid or midbass on the mid output and both show similar results voltage wise at low frequencies. And next to that, i really prefer how the mid plays midrange compared to the midbass, which is keeping me from scrapping the 3 way idea and getting a 2 way crossover for just the 6.5 and tweet (which would simplify my install but.. that mid sounds nice!). Its really a matter of i wanna, but should i? Anyone with passive crossover experience that can chime in? Pretty pleeease ? ps. if i go through with it speakers would be installed very close to one another low in the door, triangular formaiton, to keep time anamolies at bay..
