dcanale Posted April 4, 2018 Report Posted April 4, 2018 Hey Guys, new to the forum been doing my own car audio since I started driving. I recently purchased a boat with outdated system Electrical/audio (2002). It consisted of 4 W0 JL 12s. 6 fosgate 6.5 coax. 1 500.1 pushing subs and 4.300 pushing coax. 2 fosgate caps 1 for each amp. 3 optima blue tops from 2014. 1 for starter, 2 for system 4g main wire. All the subs were weathered and not working so I swapped them out for some Pyle 600w 300RMS marine subs just for now intel I figure out my list for a complete new system. So I want to start at my source of power and main Positive/Negative wire. I want to move to 3 xp2000 xs power batteries and 0/1 marine cable. I have a Pergo battery switch for 1,2,All. with starter battery independent form other 2 batteries. 1. How can I set it up to charge the 3 batteries from the alternator? 2. should I use caps? or just get rid of them? I have heard mixed info on caps in boat stereos. thank you for the input
Charles Phillips Posted April 4, 2018 Report Posted April 4, 2018 Capacitors present another load on the charging system, since the alternator charges the battery and the battery has to charge the capacitor before it reaches the amplifier. With the information I've gathered thus far, I am convinced that capacitors do not assist in regulating power in this way. Most people that use them would most likely be better off with more alternator power.
