Seth Posted December 29, 2020 Report Posted December 29, 2020 Hey all, I'm trying to come up with a box design for 2 DC LVL 5 12's on a Crescendo BC6k. My goal isn't a high-tune for SPL/comp as I absolutely love the low notes (mid/high 20's and low 30's). Just not sure whose advice to follow as I've been looking through threads for hours and the 2 main things I'm seeing are: 1.) With high power, too little Port Area (and port area per foot) will lead to output loss & port noise AND 2.) too high port area will lead to premature mechanical failure at lower notes. With that being said, I can design a box but it causes me to make my box much bigger (working within a trunk) to account for the mid-30in long port to satisfy the minimum Port Area from Triticum's calc. If my main focus is "ground pounding lows", should I just stick to the "12-16" old rule to prevent overexcursion or am I going to end up with too much port noise? Attaching a pic that shows how crazy long this port is going to need to be and still not satisfy Triticum's calculated values (64in^2 PA min, 20in^2 per ft). My current setup is a DC XL 15 on a Crescendo BC2000d and the box I made for it is definitely lower than what the calc values should've been and yet it still performs great so I'm just confused on what to follow.
