Wiring and fusing question

Recommended Posts

So the other thread I started got me planning a whole new system instead of keeping what I have. Its been awhile since I've done one from scratch, and alot has changed it seems over the years.

I'm planning a 2 amp system, one 4 channel and one mono for my sub/subs. Both amps are class D amps. They are...

Rockford Fosgate R2-750x1 Mono
Rockford Fosgate R2-500x4 4 channel

Both amps suggest using 4 gauge, and the mono amp calls for a 120 amp fuse while the 4 channel calls for an 80 amp fuse.

The sub amp will be run at 2 ohms currently, but is 1 ohm stable and has 750 watts rms at 1 ohm, but I've seen birth sheets with alot more. I may add another 4ohm DVC sub later on to present a 1 ohm load.

The 4 channel is 75x4 RMS at 4 ohm and will be ran at such levels.

It seems an AGU style fuse isn't available for the 120 amp, so I will likely use an ANL distribution block. I prefer AGU fuses for the ease of popping them out if need be without tools, but it seems everything is gravitating towards the ANL style now a days. So on one side of the block will be a 120 amp fuse going to the mono amp, and an 80 amp fuse going to the 4 channel, per manufacturer recommendations.

My questions are, 1) do I need to run a 1/0 main power wire, and if so, what size main fuse should I run at the battery?

2) would 4 gauge be ok for the main wire, and if so, what size fuse at the battery?

3) if 4 gauge is ok, are there any fused distribution blocks that have 4ga in and 2 4ga out? Most of what I'm finding that has 4ga out has a 1/0 gauge in.

Good morning!  Lets see if we can get you an answer here:
1) Yes, 1/0 from the battery to the distro with a 200-250 fuse (basically add the two fuse requirements together and I add 10% for variation but you may not be able to get a 220). (https://www.wccaraudio.com/ceramic-smd-anl-fuses-100-500a-2-pack.html)
2) 4GA is recommended for both amps so 1/0 from battery to split (fused distro) into 2 4ga to the amps (https://www.wccaraudio.com/1-1-0-to-2-4-ga-waterproof-anl-fused-distribution-block-dual-anl-fuse-holder.html)
3) Yes they make those but you would need a 1/0 in (from battery) and 2 4awg (to amps).

Sweet! Thanks for the info and links. Any chance you happen to know what size split loom covers 1/0? I may end up running down the frame rail of the truck and going up through the floor pan behind the back seat rather than running it under the carpet. The silplates on this truck barely have enough room for the 8 gauge I have already ran, let alone 1/0.
