Would a progressive SPL spider sound as good as a linear SQ spider in a sixth order?

I know that linear spiders will play distorted less sounds than a progressive one. However, since a sixth order only plays transient notes, and not tones directly from the driver, would the non-linear and distorted movement still lead to audible distortion? 
And finally, of it does not cause distortion, would a progressive spider be more efficient to use in a sixth order?
