Wiring on top of pad and directly under carpet or?

Newbie here. I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I have old classic truck. I sound deadened the bare metal floorpan. Do you guys run your sound system wiring (speaker wire, signal wire) laying directly on top of the sound deadener and then place the carpet padding? Or place the wires on top of the carpet padding directly under the carpet? Appreciate your advice.
