focalrock4life
Im enrolled in the central florida fire academy to become a firefighter/EMT. I already have my EMT license and have had it for a while now woking for polk county EMS. Anyways I moved to St.cloud and their fire and EMS are consolidated into one, so to make a long story short I have to go back to get my FIre standards (Ive always wanted to anyways). Prior to getting a seat we have to take a test clled "fit for fire" proving we will make it through the course. it consists of the following: Stair Climb – Carry a 100-foot, 13/4 inch hose bundle weighing appoximately 45 pounds from ground level up stairs to the fourth floor and then back down again, touching every step on the way up and down. Force Entry – Move a metal log weight from one end of a 60-inch sled to the other by striking it with an eightpound sledgehammer, while straddling the log. Hose Advance – Drag two 50-foot sections of dry 3-inch hose that have been looped together a distance of 100 feet. Ladder Fly Hoist – Fully extend and then lower the fly section of a 24-foot ladder that is held in place against a wall. You do not balance the ladder, you merely raise and lower the fly. SO with that being said I am getting a weighted 70lb vest from MiR and I already have an idea on workouts im going to do to get ready for it and they are Power walks sprints Stadiums im gonna get our 8 pound sledge and practice moving a big log with it pull ups and push ups anything else I should hit? (no gym please) Im going for core strength here I have 4 weeks before the test

focalrock4life
run..alot. Alot alot. Like.. up and down the street until you're doing like 2 miles a day. well see heres the thing about distance running and firefighting. they dont go together. On scene they do not run for 2 miles to get to a fire. they sprint short distances to get things in a hurry in full turnout gear. hence the vest. Thats why i didnt add that. plus all the stadiums and power walking will suffice for cardio especially with teh vest..
