Subwoofer Placement And Tunig Frequency

I'm building a ported box for a jeep cheroke that will have 2) 12" subs. What is the best way to positon the subs and port or vent, subs up ports facing back, ports up subs back, both on the same box side? what is a good frequency to tune the ports to for; low bass, spl, and everyday listening? I plane on making three sets of ports so I can change them as i feel fit.
