RELAYS

Relays are really just a basic switch that uses small electrical pulses to operate it. They can do many things in the car audio world. They can be used to power up multiple electronic devices (by boosting current), change polarity, and switching between two wires. Relay are cheap, easy to find (Automotive stores, Your local car audio shop, online, or your nearest electronics store like Radio Shack), and simple to use once you understand a few basics.

Check out some of this great info that I have used a lot of times.

The basics of how relays work:

Applications for relays:

A good resource for relays:

There are many other resources on the web (Google is your friend). I hope this clears up a few things about relays, and helps you out on your future projects.

Oh yeah I posted this up because I used relays to take care of somethings on a buddy's car today, and it's been a while so I had to look some of them up for reference. You can do all kinds of cool things with relays and thought it might help someone else.
