Subwoofer Box And # Question

Im trying to decide between 4 12's and 3 12's. IF i do 3 12's they will be firing back with port back too. If I do 4 12's i will have to do 2 up and 2 back. Can i still port a box with 2 up and 2 back?? or would i have to seal it?

Also if it is sealed which will hit harder?

Ported will be louder as long as the enclosure you build is the right size for the subwoofers. If you can fit 4 12s you can add a port to whatever side has enough room for one, like between the two rear firing subwoofers, throw in a 10"x10" port or something like that and make the length whatever you need to get the desired frequency.
