Alternator Output

My friend has an 07 GTI and is thinking of running an AQ 2200D to two Fi Q's. My question is, will this amp be happy powered by the stock alt (120 amp). He doesn't really want to run an extra battery unless absolutely necessary.

All suggestions and advice is appreciated.

i would say that the stock 120 amp alt would be efficiate. it would help alot if he ran a rear batt just to help out in voltage.

The short answer is yes, if he puts a good battery up front and maybe the back as well but he still might have voltage drops if he gets on it..

His GTI needs every bit of a 120 amp alternator just for the car. New cars are getting SO power hungry with all the electronics that anymore, and 120 amp factory alternators these days are SMALL.. If you need 90-100 amps for the car, just to run and power basic accessories it doesn't leave much room for extras with only 120 amps..

Just for comparison, the last 2 GTI's W/2.5L 5cyl motors I did alternators for were an '08 that had a 150 amp stock, and an '09 that had a 180 amp stock and both of them got our 275 amp/180 amp idle monsters..

180-200 amp alternators are now so common on NEW cars, that meaningful upgraded alts pretty soon are going to be 350 amps +

Thanks, I always like the idea of extra batteries, but he didn't really want to go thet route for some reason. I'll let him read this. I didn't even take into account all of the gadgets in his car accept for the simple things like gauges, lights, and ac haha. I'm used to my car since it's nice and simple for the most part.
