Need Some Input

Ok I am thinking of redoing my entire charging system and stuff.

I am currently only running a 300w jensen amp and a 350w alpine amp. I am going to ditch the alpine amp and get something larger, maybe a RF 400.2, Hifonics 1206 or something. Running 2 JL12w1's. Alternator is only 60amps I believe but plan to put in a 170amp or maybe even a 200amp. Anyways is it necessary to solder 1/0 cables? I am going to do the BIG 3 also. Would you suggest 1/0 for everything? (amp power cable, ground, and stuff also)

Also where is the cheapest place to get some 1/0 from?

Sounds like you've got a decent plan.

I would get the wiring done foremost before anything, followed by the alternator. For the amps you wish to run a 170A alt would be fine, but get the 200 if you can, to allow for upgrades down the line. An alternator is a great investment.

As for the wiring, do 1/0 if you can afford it, but all you need is 4awg for a Hifonics 1206. Get GOOD wire, solid copper not aluminum or copper clad aluminum like you'll find on the cheapest wire. As for ring terminals, you're better off NOT soldering, if you have the ability to perform a proper crimp. Many people solder instead because it's "easier" but it results in weaker connections and carries less power than a properly crimped connection. If you don't have access to a crimping tool, and don't feel comfortable doing a crimp manually, soldering would be an acceptable alternative just make sure you get terminals designated for soldering.
