FreelandKustomz Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 So the question has been brought up, can you just use normal speakers on a pontoon boat? something that will never see salt water. something that will never get wet unless someone is soaking wet and drips onto it. wouldnt a component with a bass blocker on the back work just as well? and just normal tweeters? i know there is water moisture thats stired up, is it really that big of a deal ??? same with amps and subs?

Well at our shop we do quite a few boats every summer and I rarely use marine rated gear and have had every few problems. Out where I'm at we don't have to worry about salt water either so corrosion problem with the gear. I just try to stay away from paper cone speakers because they wont take the moisture. You also just have to be careful were you place the amps so that they don't take on any water either. I also use a marine housing for the deck to keep it high and dry that way your not limited to the gay marine decks that normally only have one pre output. We also like to use kenwoods marine remotes for the swim deck and captains chair location it's a cool little water proof key pad that can be mounted anywhere so that way your not tied to the deck for control. Our systems seem to work out for our customers but if you want to try marine rated gear we have had really good luck with all of the JL Audio Marine product. Well thats my 2 cents..... good luck man! FreelandKustomz Posted March 28, 2009 Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 thats what i was thinking. The amps will be very try. and im planning on doing an image dynamic mids and highs with RE subs and amps. Should be killer. Another thing i read was to make sure to you use tinned copper because copper will corrode.
