Duvanator Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 I like my home audio the way i like my car audio, big and loud. i have something in the planning stage and have a question. I currently have 2 AB international Precedent Series 600A amplifiers (real old school work horses) ( http://www.abamps.com/productarchive.html#600a ) (600A (Precedent Series) * Two channel amplifier * 270w per channel @ 8 ohms * 425w per channel @ 4 ohms * 750w @ bridged mono @ 8 ohms * Dual 5-way binding posts * Passive cooling * Weight 31 lbs well my plan is to run just a regular 5.1 or 7.1 receiver and have a sub running off each of these amps. since these amps will get their signal from rca's off the back of the receiver i need to find some type of crossover. im not sure what to be looking for so i need some help. is there an in-line rca crossover available for home audio? (to put between the receiver and the amp) or is there something i put in line between the amp and the sub? Duvanator Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 i think what im looking for is a home audio equalizer that has rca outputs for low freq / sub ? if someone knows where to help me look? head unit - Panasonic MXE CQ-C7403U amp - Cerwin-Vega EXL 1200D subs - (x2) Cerwin Vega V-MAX 15.4 box - 5.8 ^3 at 32hz spkrs- Phoenix Gold Rsd Comps
Mtgrooves Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 You can get what is called a sub choke, which is put on the positive side of sub speaker lead to filter out high freq's much like caps on mids and highs, harrison labs also makes a RCA filter as well that I have used a few times with good results. Duvanator Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 I searched but haven't found much on subwoofer chokes. do you have any links? Being in line would they have a maximum wattage rating they can handle? i found these and wonder if these are any good? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=266-256 head unit - Panasonic MXE CQ-C7403U amp - Cerwin-Vega EXL 1200D subs - (x2) Cerwin Vega V-MAX 15.4 box - 5.8 ^3 at 32hz spkrs- Phoenix Gold Rsd Comps
Mtgrooves Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Those are the RCA crossovers that I've used before with decent results, however I think I remember reading that James had problem with them I'm not sure. As far as old school sub chokes go I'll have to hunt around on the net ya and see if I can find any links to them. It's a pretty old school way of doing things but it gets the job done.
