BigJohnny
i've been wondering this for a while now. my radio has an illumination wire, and it also has a dimmer + and - wires. the illumination wire is hooked up, and the dimmer wires are not since there was no corresponding wires in the harness that I could see. I used a best kits wiring harness kit to make the install easier. My stereo lights up, but it does not dim. it's a Kenwood KDC-MP538U, my car is a 96 Mercury Cougar, and only has an illumination wire. no separate dimming wires. does anyone know how to wire it up so it will dim with the rest of the stuff? I've been wondering if you could wire in the dim+ on the radio to the illumination wire in the dash, and put dim- to ground. I don't want to try it lest I fry something. if the cars illumination wire just puts out variable voltage to dim, I wouldn't see why this wouldn't work unless the radio requires voltage to the illumination wire to light up, and something else for the dimmer to work.
