Newbie: Need (2) 12" Subs & Amp

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm a complete newbie. I got ripped off a year or so ago by "Car Tunes", I paid 1k for a horrrible setup.... I currently have a Rockford Fosgate P2 12" Subwoofer running off a Alpine A1200 Amp with 8 gauge cable on a ford fusion.

I can't even feel the car shake over the internal speakers.... so I think its time for an upgrade.

I know I need to rerun the power cable, and I was hoping to get off without needing an additional battery or alternator.

I was looking at the Fi SSD 12" because I already have a box that suites 2 12" subwoofers (specifically the 12w3's)... And I also need an amplifier. I was looking at the ZX1500.1, but I'm not sure if it could run 2 subwoofers. I'm a complete newbie, so any help would be great. I don't exactly have a budget, but I'd prefer on the cheaper side.

Thanks!

That amp will work great for those subs, but make sure you get the D2 version, so you can wire them for a final ohm load of 2ohms, I actually own a ZX.1500 amp, it has always been reliable, the birthsheet rms was about 1780 rms.

if youre saying car tunes I assume you're on long island

I have two jbl p1224 subs in a custom box built exactly to jbl spec if you want it, and they love 1000-1200rms at the 4ohm load they give (or 1 ohm, i ran them at 4)

if you are on long island, i assume you're local, and since it could be a face to face transaction you'd even get to hear them play and not have to pay shipping, let me know if you're interested via pm

Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build

monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now)

It was actually the Car Tunes in Michigan.

So you guys don't think its hard to build a box, I mean I've never even touched a saw.

Would I need to re-run cables from the battery? Isn't 8 guage to small... or would it be able to power the ZX1500.2?

Thanks for the great answers!

with that budget, if you decide to get new stuff, DC lvl3s are affordable and they bang. You are definitely going to need bigger wire for sure. I'm running stock alt and stock batt with no problems. Just depends on how much "bang" you want. I had lvl2s before and the hit pretty hard but I wanted to be louder and more power so I bumped up to the lvl3s.

So what is your current set up, Ported or sealed box?

Once you start you can never stop. Bass addiction is serious. And there is no 12 step program for it.
Subs are like titties, They need to come in pairs because ones and threes are just wrong, and larger amounts will always draw a crowd, we all have our favorite sizes, but the bigger ones are more fun to watch move. :D
