Why won't it work for his laptop? Mine is a Dell Inspiron 1525 and it has a switch on the side. Try going to network settings and right clicking on the Wireless Adapter or something like that and try to see if it says Connect or Scan. I found out mine is due to faulty hardware known for my series...dv9000 (and dv6000 is affected too). Dunno if its the same thing, but see if there is a wireless driver in the driver section.
