VIN Etching
dsoccer replied to dsoccer's topic in Security Center - Car/Home Alarms, devices, tactics, tips....
Dealership was pretty shady to begin with. But they were saying the "service" was to be activated. Basically if I didnt "activate" it and I totaled my car, I would not get that $2000 or so they claimed...just curious if anyone had any experience or knowledge of VIN etching... -
VIN Etching
dsoccer replied to dsoccer's topic in Security Center - Car/Home Alarms, devices, tactics, tips....
I figured bye bye $150 It sounded BS at the time, and still does... -
Not 100% sure if this goes in this section, if not my apologies. I bought my car last year and it had the VIN etched into the window already (supposedly for security purposes??). Now the dealer told me the window was VIN etched but it is not "activated" until I pay them $150. Then when I pay that $150 I would get $2000 back from the insurance if the car was ever totaled. They explained that this is how the VIN etching service worked. I just heard on the radio for a program for people to get thier windows VIN etched for $10, so the car can be recovered if stolen, ie easily ID'd, that is what reminded me. Is the dealer full of it? (By the way, I didn't go for it)

In my opinion, I think it is Ok for celebs and figures like that. Like following Steve would be interesting....following an old friend, or letting the world know what you are doing all day long....pointless. I'm sure you guys won't care what my day to day life consists of There was a story a few months ago, where a guy tweeted constantly when he was on vacation; where he was and how far away he was, blah blah. He came home, and was robbed blind....

When I was driving down the road I heard it from my trunk, pulled over. Then went to the trunk and listened to the subs...I am 99.9% it is the subs, I checked the amp (mounted on the box and that thing was solid wasnt even vibrating (ok well a little ) if it is the tinsel leads, whats the best way to fix it?
-
When I get a chance on Sunday I will take it out investigate, and take a few pics for you guys if I see something that may be wrong. Thanks for the help this morning!
-
So when the sub hits with too much power, it flexes down so much to hit the lead? (just trying to understand)...how did you work around it?
-
I checked the volume, it is smaller than the recommended .66 cuft, with displacement and all, so I threw some fiberfill to make it "bigger" as I have learned. I also heard I need the fiberfill in the box to help with fiberglass "rattling" resonating, don't know how legit that is. But no I don't have an oscope, but I did do the 3/4 way up deal, and then set the amp before I ever heard clipping, so I doubt it could be that, also no clipping light. That is the one thing I have been pretty conservative with is the volume button, I do not want to clip ever.
-
It is a sealed box, both subs are in their own chambers. The 2x subs take 300 rms each, but the amp only puts out 500 rms. I don't think I have been pushing them too hard. Haven't clipped them either.
-
So I was listening to my system on the ride home the other day, and when I turned it up louder and louder, it sounded like there was a rattle of metal coming from the sub. It sounded like the sub had a screw on the cone just jumping around when it hit. I did notice some air leaks around the sub, could that be it? Can't imagine it would. I just found this out the other day and hadn't had time to pull everything out yet. I was just curious if anyone could give a few pointers or ideas of what to look for before I go in and search. Also it is a fiberglass box, maybe it is resonating inside and I need more fiberfill in it? PS sig has all equipment listed. Thanks all!!

This Is Just Bullshit

Absolutely agree, there is no way this scumbag should be free. I understand the arguement for him BUT cancer does not justify what this man did 20 years ago. AT THE VERY MOST he should go to a prison hospital and die there. It shows that some countries are willing to tolerate the BS he did, so many years ago. 270 people could not be with their families when they died, why should a premeditated terrorist be allowed to. -
FiberGlass, Resin, Fleese? Dry Fiber? Help PLEASE
dsoccer replied to SubSonic's topic in Fabrication, Fiberglass, Etc
I believe he is talking about kitty hair or the like...a mixture of short strand fiberglass fibers, resin, and bondo (if I'm not mistaken). I have seen it used for smoothing (like the guy above said) and filling in gaps like in between the box and the wall (if a flush corner box). -
Damn...that is crazy. Is it all versions of Word? This is the first I'm hearing about this, I have a feeling they will be able to pull something out of thier ass, I mean its Microsoft dont they have enough money to buy the courts haha jk
