subwoofer box questions

hi i just wanted to know that how do you put the port in the center of the box like steve does is there any special way of working it out or could i just use re audio calc to make a box and port and then move the port into the middle and just add sides to the port hope this makes sense

That my friend, would be a square port instead of a slot port (L-Shaped). Slot ports are good when you have little space to work with so the port won't take up much space as it would with a square one. This is because it uses 3 sides of the enclosure as the port.
