The best way I found to do what you want is to us a relay or toogle switch. To me you should only run three things off a headunit anything more us a relay. So it would be alright to tap into the amp + and ground? If so, if I accidentally put the ground to the + and the + to the ground will something bad happen lol? If you just hooked it up to the amp, it would be on all the time (the lights draw too much power to run them off the remote wire). But I don't have a relay and you said it isn't a good idea to hook it up to the amp supply.
