1992Chevy K1500 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Guess what... My Jensen completely drained my battery. For some reason it didn't shut off with my vehicle. I had it muted, so I didn't notice that it wasn't off when I went out during break to get a book I forgot. I tried to crank it and it wouldn't do anything (not even the dash low battery warning light would come on). I tried to jump off of one of my friends, but the voltage (on my DMM) wouldn't go above 10 volts. I asked him to rev the engine up. I got in and heard a whining noise, and that's when I realized my HU was at fault. The whining was alt noise from the other vehicle. I ended up having it towed back to my house and it's on the charger now. My Jensen is unhooked and awful close to having a tragic accident. Thank goodness I have an old HU (not a DVD, just CD and radio) that I can use. I don't have enough money to buy a new DVD HU, so I'm just gonna buy a second screen and use it as my carputers screen. I'll keep using this HU because it was very reliable when I had it in my truck and I've kept it in good condition since. The HU has a fused wire run to a constant power source and a remote turn on wire connected to a relay that is energized only when the engine is running (multiple accessories run off this relay). The ignition turn on lead has no power on it when the truck is off. So it's an internal short.
