thephanatik
I have a 1994 Saturn SL that I've been fixing up. My problem is randomly on cold starts there is a loud whooshing sound for the first second when you start the car. It isn't frequent enough to isolate the problem though. I put in a new starter during winter. Can't recall if it was happening before that, but it doesn't sound like the starter. I have put in a new head, valves, camshaft, etc. and a new timing chain after the problem. Other than this, it starts up and runs really well. Colin - STAPUFT
Does it have an electric or a mechanical clutch fan? If mechanical clutch type, it could be the fan clutch going out. It's an electrical fan. I'm pretty stuck with ideas. I've replaced half the stuff under the hood since it started making the noise.
