ok i have a 2003 licoln navigator and i wanna do the big 3 upgrade can you help because the alternator is hard to get to?

is it? mine wasnt that hard but mine is a 99 way diif i havent seen your motor...but is it like in the middle and kind of down in the center?..i had to remove air filter and all the extra plastics to get to mine too.

Dont mean to sound like an ass, but you just have to deal with it, some cars are just a b*tch to do the Big 3 on, one of the cars I did it on you had to take off the wheel and the plastic wheel well cover to get to it, thats just how things are in the automotive world, heck the other day I changed a water pump for a customer with a van, and you had to damn well basically remove the engine to take it out.

is there any way there can be a voltage short if the positive touches the engine block?

Yes! If you dont disconnect that battery that is. Always disconnect the batt when doing something like that.

i also have a 40 farad tsunami capacitor! do i take that into concern?
