Help with getting a used car loan..

Recommended Posts

Okay guys, long story short... I'm getting ready to put my Camaro in the grave.. To save it and to give me something to drive during the winter im looking at my friends 99 ext cab silverado with 4wd. He only wants $2200 for it and unfortunately i dont have the cash for it. I'm 19, in college and really have no credit.

What will be my best option for trying to finance? I'm willing to pay a high interest rate if thats what it takes because frankly i need a reliable vehicle and 2200 for a 99 silverado isnt bad IMO.

I'd hit that so fucking hard whoever pulled me out would be King of England.

Lol... looks like we were on the same page. Car-B-Ques suck.

ya, tires and paint burning make the marshmallows taste funny.

My guess is you will probably have to have a parent Co-Sign, given they too have good credit, then it shouldnt be a problem.

I would say to not do it. Deliver pizzas, mow grass, rake leaves, whatever until you get your $2200. A car isn't something you should ever borrow money for.

Cars go down in value anyway, so on top of that- you will be paying interest too. You are effectively loosing money twice. And you are much more likely to get something that you wouldn't if you forked over the cash for it. I have never borrowed a cent for a car. I always pay cash, and I have never regretted it. Pay Yourself the payment, don't spend it on anything other than what you earmark it for, and when you have fully funded what you need- make your purchase. That is called a sunk cost analysis.

My 2 cents.

right, this is generally my opinion also, but my car is not running, i have to have a car for my job, and my car doesnt do well in the winter being its RWD and a camaro, even in the rain its hard to drive. I'd prefer to save up for the truck (or another car) but i really dont have that luxury at this moment.

you can get a student loan(private) and use that to get a car. don't just pay the minimum everymonth cause that will take forever to pay, pay the maximum you can do in a month so that you'll pay it off maybe within a year. yes you can use a student loan to get a car cause you will use it for you transportation to go to your school.
