I need a new stereo, reccomendations?

Hey all, I have a very puny set-up right now, I would like to have one that won't start clanging or clicking after I turn it up too high. I know this is about -car- stereos but mine is in-home. My current set up is: 1, (75 watt) Aiwa amp w/ two speakers w/ built in subs. 1 (400 watt) Boise woofer attatached where the plain wires plug in to the amp. Then An altec lansing woofer qith two surround speakers and volume, tone and bass controll. I'd like something powerful but that I can controll everything. And I'd like to keep it at $300 or less.
